If selected, what will my family do as part of the study?

Research studies often divide participants into different groups to conduct a study. The groups usually do different things so researchers can compare the effectiveness
of an activity. In this particular study, we
will have three different groups to which qualifying families will be assigned. Families will be randomly assigned to groups prior to January.

For most families selected to participate, basic activities and time commitments
would be estimated as follows:

January - Attend a kick-off meeting that will be a fun day for families to meet each other and learn specifics about the study. The parents and youth 10- 19 years will attend trainings about their specific roles in the project. Young children will be provided with a lot of fun activities to do during the day. The meeting will take approximately 4 hours.

February - In your home, a lesson on a farm safety topic will be taught. This will take approximately one or two hours and will be scheduled at a time convenient for you.

March - Your family has activities to do together on your farm in relation to the home lesson. You complete the activity on your own and will mail it back to UGA. The lesson may take anywhere from one to two hours to complete.

April - In your home, a lesson on a farm safety topic will be taught. This will take approximately one or two hours and will be scheduled at a time convenient for you.

June - Your family has activities to do together on your farm in relation to the home lesson. You complete the activity on your own and will mail it back to UGA. The lesson may take anywhere from one to two hours to complete.

August - In your home, a lesson on a farm safety topic will be taught. This will take approximately one or two hours and will be scheduled at a time convenient for you.

September -Your family has activities to do together on your farm in relation to the home lesson. You complete the activity on your own and will mail it back to UGA. The lesson may take anywhere from one to two hours to complete.

December - Families come back together for a Holiday celebration. Final activities for the study would be completed during the meeting. There will be fun activities for the whole family to do. This event will take approximately 3 hours.
